LeLa Art Gallery is pleased to invite you to “YETEKELEKELE BOTA” a painting exhibition by Behailu Bezabih.
The opening reception is this Saturday, March 25th at 3pm. The exhibition continues through to April 23rd 2017.
Behailu’s role in Ethiopian contemporary art is monumental. Over the past 25 years he has consistently developed his distinctive narrative technique in which he recounts his observations of society. His subject matter includes social commentary on Ethiopian street life, the immigrant experience in Europe, the political life of Africa, and globalization.
In this show, Behailu explores issues of access boundaries: accesss of individuals to mobility, access to education, and access to public spaces.
As always, his pieces are thought provoking and created with his characteristic wit and unique style.
Artist Statement:
“I always try use my paintings as a bridge that transports the viewer to another space. That new space may show beauty but does not spell out answers, as a preacher ‘s sermon might.”
