The Buhait-Dilyibza asphalt road, a high elevation road between 3,000 -4,000 metres above sea level, is sixty percent complete. The 72Km road linking Debark to Dilyibza town, the capital of Beyeda Wereda is to be completed by next year, December 2016 and a spot check by the Ethiopia Observer revealed that construction workers were making final touches of the northern part of the road. A portion of the road lies within the Semein National park, a stunning expanse of jagged peaks, deep valleys and plunging waterfalls.
Because of the ruggedness of the mountain and technical issues resulting from the geography, the construction of this road has been a huge human and financial investment and slow process. Once the new route is open in December 2016, it is also expected to improve traffic safety as the existing routes feature a number of dangerous stretches. It will provide a much shorter route for the region and its construction will provide better transport links between Debark and Beyeda passing through the village Chiro-Leba (3,300m) and continuing down through tributary rivers.
The new road infrastructure is set to open up the region as farmers will now transport their produce to market when still fresh. In addition, tourists will travel to the county easily from other regions of the country.
The road is being constructed by Satcon, a local company.
