The list of the globe’s most potent armies ranks the United States as the most powerful military in the world, with a power index rating of 0.0857.The website Global Firepower ranks the most powerful militaries in the world based on multiple factors, including available manpower, total labor force, and access to strategic assets. Nuclear capabilities are not included in the calculation.
The US is estimated to have almost 5,884 tanks at its disposal and a further 13,762 aircraft.
While the US is still far and away the world’s top military superpower, Russia and China are its closest rivals with a power index rating of 0.0929 and 0.0945 respectively.
Seven African countries have made it to the top 55th list. Egypt is ranked as the most powerful from the continent, 10th worldwide ahead of Israel, with more than 1,000 aircraft and 4,000 tanks. Algeria is placed 25th in the ranking, with 500 aircraft and 2,400 tanks.
The Global Firepower ranked Ethiopia’s military as the 41th most powerful worldwide ahead of South Africa (46th), Angola (51th) and Morocco (54th). Ethiopia has a power index rating of 0.7443, with 800 tanks and 80 aircraft. The country’s spending for the army is 340 millions dollar, according to the index.
