Leading opposition figure in Ethiopia and Chairman of the Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC) Dr. Merera Gudina has been denied bail.
Dr. Merera was arrested two months ago, apparently in relation to his activities as opposition activism, after speaking out against the state of emergency in an address to the European parliament on 9 November. At a bail hearing yesterday (26th), a judge is understood to have denied bail to Dr. Merea Gudina, after police argued that the defendant may destroy or alter evidence if released on bail.
Dr. Merera has been held in poor conditions and solitary confinement since his arrest.
