Fire engulfs main market in Gondar town

Yet another mysterious fire has destroyed large parts of Gondar’s main market, state media reports.
More 400 stalls devastated by a fire that broke out at the Kidame Gebeya market, a large indoor-outdoor market in Gondar town, at 10 P.M, public relation officer of the town’s police department told the state-owned Radio Fana.
Thousands of people lost properties and other valuables in the blaze at the market, known for its fresh produce, spices, textiles and steel. The blaze spread quickly through the market and smokes were seen as late as mid-day today. The cause of the fire is still unclear; no deaths or serious injuries have been reported.
Similar fires have recently gutted prions in Addis Ababa and Debre Markos.
The town of Gondar has been a flashpoint for nationwide protests that engulfed the country in recent months.
