Abune Mathias hospitalized with hypertension

The Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, Abune Mathias, suffering from hypertension, was admitted to a hospital in the United States, according to a local paper. Sendek, a weekly Amharic paper, reported that the patriarch, 73, felt exhausted while leading the annual festival of Mary of Zion celebration in Aksum a week ago. His voice was weak and at times quavering.He was flown to the US after being seen at a hospital here in Addis Ababa.
The paper quoted sources saying that the patriarch’s overall condition was not in danger but he will remain the hospital for a week.
